Joshua Tree National Park / Indian Cove Campground

Indian Cove Camping

We headed to Joshua Tree pretty clueless on what to expect, one of those places everyone had been to but we never thought much about. Then we tried to get to and plans always fell through. On our way out of California it seemed to be a perfect time to swing in and stay a night. I booked the Indian Cove Campground last minute and it was the closest option to the national park, since everything else was still shut down. I’d done my instagram photo research and hoped to park somewhere near the rocks to get “the photo” of the rig next to the huge boulders. Carlos and I pulled into the park and headed for the assigned spot, which was made for a tent really. The ranger saw us backing in and took mercy on us, offering the “emergency spot” they keep available. We were very grateful, and the spot was so incredible we stayed an extra day. The sites are beautiful, but come prepared there are no hookups. Minimal shopping in the town of Twenty One Palms, a couple cute restaurants, shops and places to pick up groceries.

Okay Cholla, I never knew you, but now I love you. The cholla garden at sunset was so worth coming into the park, I tried to get photos of the Joshua trees and boulders without truly capturing them. I’ve since gotten a proper camera and lens hoping to get a chance to tell the story with pictures more accurately. Chollas are sharp, we’ve learned from experience 🙂 They are also very beautiful, as we left CA and made our way towards Arizona I now had a new word in my vocabulary and cholla spines attached to various personal belongings.
