21 Jan Morro Bay / Morro Dunes RV Park
What an unexpected surprise, a location not so far away from us all these years! We chose this location based on a picture I’d seen on instagram, you know that it is. You see something beautiful and imagine what it is truly like. Well, when you’re living fulltime in an RV seeing these beautiful destinations, and locating the unobtainable photo has become a possibility for us.
When we pulled into this RV park it was open to essential workers and full timers only, this means we had the place to ourselves pretty much. The sites are full hookups, bathrooms are spotless, great laundry facilities and the staff is wonderful. All that is great but, the location is why you come stay here. Right on the dunes, with the ocean as the background music, and steps away from watching the incredible sunsets.
A very short walk into the town of Morro Bay you can stroll along the water watching the sea otters with a coffee from Skippers Brew a tiny cookie served atop each cup was a great touch for a cookie lover like myself. There are plenty of cute souvenir shops, antique shops to keep you busy for a couple days throughout town.
Let’s talk about seafood!! Our first day we found the fish and chips options were overwhelming and decided quickly the best way to pick a favorite was to order from all of the places in Morro bay claiming to be the “best” fish and chips. Listen to us, we’ve done the research Giovanni’s Fish Market is the best. Stop looking, it’s here you will find the most delicious fish & chips, and grilled tacos. (we have driven through here hours out of our way since just to eat lunch) They have their own boats and bring in fresh crabs which are swimming out front ready to steam, which they will do to order. We purchased crabs and took them back to the airstream to make dinner. Carlos picked the crabs and tossed with pasta, butter and lemon. On our second trip to Morro Bay we got crab again and did crab cakes, I still dream about them. Do yourself a favor and purchase their housemade tartar sauce.
While in the area check out Morro Creek Ranch a nearby avocado farm with interesting varieties of avocados and other fresh local items. nearby town of Cayucos another small oceanside town where there are plenty more cute shops, restaurants and where the Brown Butter Cookie Co. flagship location resides. Being a cookie connoisseur I bought all of the top flavors and left thinking “meh not worth the line” however there always seems to be a very impressive line, so what do I know!? Haha
